Afrontamiento en pacientes con cáncer de mama: una revisión narrativa

Resumen

En México, el cáncer de mama ocupa el segundo lugar de incidencia y es la causa más común de muerte en mujeres. Recibir un diagnóstico de cáncer provoca que muchos pacientes presenten niveles elevados de estrés psicológico, por lo que se requiere de un proceso de adaptación que les permita ajustarse adecuadamente a las consecuencias del diagnóstico. Debido a que el afrontamiento representa un indicador efectivo de la forma en la que las pacientes se adaptan al diagnóstico y el tratamiento, se realizó una revisión de literatura para identificar el estado actual del conocimiento sobre el afrontamiento en este grupo de pacientes. A partir de esta revisión identificamos tres áreas: a) las principales aproximaciones conceptuales y sus limitaciones, b) los instrumentos que permite explorar cada constructo, así como las inconsistencias tanto teóricas como psicométricas y c) los factores psicosociales asociados con el afrontamiento. Las mediciones que se han hecho parecen identificar que algunas formas de afrontamiento se han asociado con aspectos como las creencias, la espiritualidad, la edad y problemas emocionales cómo la sintomatología ansiosa y depresiva, por lo que se concluye que la identificación oportuna de la forma en la que las pacientes afrontan el cáncer, puede ser un facilitador de la prevención de problemas psicológicos en esta población.
