Abstract

The 20th century has been marked by genocide and massacre. Early in the century Armenians fell annihilated by Turks, always too soon followed by Jews and Gypsies under Nazi terror, and on up to our days with the “ethnic cleansing” in the Balkans, that blood tarnished geography of our century. Racism, exclusion of all genders and types, mortal nationalism, these seeds has found and can find opportune soils anywhere. To offset their sowing, we must regain the notion that the “alien” is in fact brethren. We must strive to remember the Bible story of the First Murder: having slain Abel in wrath, Cain was short of a truthful answer when the Lord asked “Where is thy brother?” Our honest answer to this question is the only alternative to avoid becoming both victims and executioners.
