Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the fluoride concentration in water used for human intake, sold at purifying plants in four municipalities at Estado de Mexico. Water samples of 16 different stores from 158 purifying plants were analyzed. This study was done at the Analytic Control Department at the School of Chemistry, UNAM, using the Ion Selective Electrode Method. The highest of fluoride concentration (1.38 mg/L ) was observed at Cuautitlán Izcalli municipality, whereas the lowest 0.64 mg/L was observed at Tlalnepantla municipality. Sixteen stores were visited, 12 (75%) were observed to have a fluoride concentration that surpasses the values established by the Norma Oficial Mexicana for Prevention and Control of Bucal Diseases (0.7 mg/L). Eight (50%) of the purifying plants were found to have a higher than 1 mg/L concentration.
