Mixtec and Zapotec adolescents in Santa Maria, California, United States
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article presents some of the ways Mixteco and Zapoteco teenagers, between 13 and 18 years of age, perceive and experience discrimination at their schools. I discuss institutional discrimination and microaggressions as perceived and endured day by day. The information is qualitative and emerged from informal talks with girls and boys, teachers, and mothers and fathers. It is my intention to let the voices of the adolescents be heard in this article, as well as their opinions concerning changes that would improve their lives at school.
