Abstract

Rodolfo Alonso, Argentinean poet, tells us that if poetry has still any sense, in our times of misery, it is when it continues incorporating those issues which Dante depicts so clearly, such as "the glory of language". The consumer society, the show society, has absorbed us in such a way that its noisy and demagogically narrow atmosphere, false in the double sense of imitation and dishonesty, has converted itself into a populist pseudo-culture (not of the people), produced seductively by mass communication.
