Abstract

Motivated by the triumph of Jose Mujica in the recent presidential elections, Saúl Ibargoyen writes in this article a review of the most recent decades of the nation’s history. The Uruguayan-Mexican writer emphasizes the multiplicity of the classes of the Frente Amplio, the political organization which was behind the result in which large sectors of the middle classes came together: workers, country people, socialists, communists, exguerrilas, social christians… all members together of a program which is basically antiimperialist and antioligarchy.
