La “sociedad civil” como producto procesual y relacional

Resumen

El presente texto tiene por objetivo, mediante una reconstrucción de la historia del concepto en la teoría política y las ciencias sociales, establecer la contribución analítica de una aproximación procesual y relacional a la sociedad civil (SC). La historia del concepto SC es pendular, transitando de la legitimidad a la ilegitimidad según se piense como una esfera distinguible de la economía y el Estado o se niegue dicha autonomía. Recientes trabajos, desde la sociología y la antropología, apuntan a que las ciencias sociales salgan de ese péndulo mediante una aproximación procesual y relacional. En esta perspectiva, la SC se comprende como un producto emergente de procesos donde los actores utilizan, “performan” y disputan discursos civiles para construir simbólicamente distinciones que la constituyen como una esfera autónoma. A través de dos viñetas empíricas del caso mexicano se ejemplifica la contribución heurística de este enfoque para analizar la construcción contextual de la SC y sus efectos.
