Abstract

Some authors have suggested the hypothesis that the avalability of the serotonin into synapsis, could be a factor which promotors the specific autoselection of carbohydrates. In this work it was injected into peritoneal tissue 5-hydroxytrpiophano (5-HTO), which is the predecessor of serotonin. It was done in order to evaluate the diet selection. The results show that there is more preference for the proteins than the carbohydrates in a food dose. The selection to get calories from fats was irregular. This would be another evidence that suggests the existence of specific auto-regulation mechanisms to get and consume calories from carbohydrates. In these mechanisms would operate a seretonergic action
