Abstract

The republican duality. In Mexico a big paradox of cultural and political tints has been built. On one hand, the indexes of functional illiteracy are enormous, in fact a non reading culture characterizes to the contemporary society. However, a group intellectual holder of a specific power that makes it exists it turns to itself with an authority him sufficiently laid the foundation as to influence and to point out the roads that the political power should continue. The constituent characteristic of the entity knows as “Republic of the Letters” are based on the appropriate handling of the language, that which refers to the possibility of better understanding of the world and even to the possibility of building it. From the power the writers are seen with mistrust and admiration, it tries to integrate them or it pursues them, it looks for that they approve their acts, their critic perturbs him. Sovereigns in their respective republics, the writers and the power constitute a duality excessively interesting for the study and the understanding of the contemporary cultural political life.
