The Use of Neo-Gothic in Mexican Architectural Modernity. The Microhistory of Two Churches as an Example
Main Article Content
Abstract
The construction process of two temples: the parish of Nuestra Señora del Refugio in Puerto Vallarta, in Jalisco, and the temple of San Juan Bau-tista in Xicotepec de Juárez, in Puebla, is analyzed from a social point of view. A process marked by the participation of architects, parishioners and priests. Both are examples of churches where neo-Gothic style elements are inserted into constructions that have a close resemblance to modern building practices. Some elements testify to the continuity of the use of the neo-Gothic style to the present day
