Abstract

The application of remediation technologies may produce changes in the soil physical properties, and these changes may have an influence on its productivity. To address this issue, in this work it was selected a site contaminated by gasoline that was remediated through the application of bioremediation and air sparging. The site was located in the community of San Agustin Tlaxco, Puebla. To evaluate the changes in the physical properties of the soil due to the application of the remediation technologies, two areas were used. One area was a blank area, and it was located upstream where the contamination took place, and was not affected by the gasoline spill or the remediation technology. The other area was the treated area, and this was affected by the gasoline spill as well as by the remediation technologies (bioremediation and air sparging). Soil samples were collected from both sites at three different depths. Bulk density, real density, texture and porosity were measured. A statistical analysis was carried out in order to establish differences on the values measured. Results indicated significative changes on the soil physical properties measured in both sites.
