Abstract

The Aztatlán Complex of Northeastern Mexico represents one of the most important pottery traditions of the prehispanic world. However, its components and its chronology remain obscure even though they have been widely discussed and the extensive distribution it attained is recognized. In this article the confusión that has existed since its identification in the 1930s is discussed. lts importance is evaluated, thus demonstrating the unequivocal participation of the Western and Northeastern regions of Mexico in Mesoamerica.
