Abstract
The interpretation of archaeological data on the Classic Maya is based on ethnographic and ethnohistorical research, especially that on Yucatan and the Chiapas Highlands. This poses some theoretical and methodological problems that are dealt with in the paper from the Point of view of the concept of the Asiatic mode of Proiduction.
