Estudios lingüísticos del Totonacapan
Main Article Content
Abstract
This incursion in the contemporary Totonacapan pursues two main objectives: in the first place, it aims to make an actualization of the information available about the linguistic Totonacapan that will involve topics like the current distribution of the Totonacan languages in the territory and the demographic shape of the native speaker population of these languages. In the second place, we will try to bring here, next to the more or less linguistic data, those –less frequent in this kind of texts– scattered in the published materials of historians, chroniclers and archaeologists, about the origin and course of the Totonacs and Tepehuas. We will finish this introduction to the linguistic Totonacapan with a brief survey into the written materials in and about the Totonacan languages since the xvi century, particularly in those works which are barely reviewed in linguistic papers.
