Abstract
Nowadays, the archaeological heritage is faced with a wide range of processes that have gradually transformed it into a profitable resource. It is pointed out that the accelerated touristification, commodification and spectacle have driven the archaeological heritage toacquire new meanings and uses. In consideration of the above, the aim of this paper is to discuss, through ethnographic analysis, the new uses and meanings of the archaeological heritage of El Tajin, located in Papantla, Veracruz, Mexico, due to the intensification of tourism.In conclusion it can be said that these processes have impacted the archaeological heritage, but also reached local communities.
