Balance and challenges to anthropological studies of African descent in Mexico

Abstract
This article makes a general review of anthropological studies of afrodescendants in Mexico, highlightingsome of the works that have contributed to the most creative and unique ideas about these populations.
In addition to the historiographical review, some reflections are made on the methodologies and conceptsemployed so far and on the challenges for future research.
