Abstract

The article contains a general description of the Manchester School as part of British social anthropology and its historical development, including its early phase in Northern Rhodesia. Apart from the school’s theoretical foundation and its method, the article treats its principal themes – political anthropology, legal anthropology and ritual. The article closes with a brief discussion of the school’s legacy and its relevance for Mexican anthropology.
