Abstract

The trilogy "illness-sin-confession" has practically been ignored by contemporary writers. The obsession shared by Maya and Nahua groups in Mesoamerica with regard to sinfulness in daily life, especially that of carnal nature, has been overlooked. In this, Alfonso Villa rojas points out that as early as Landa and Fray Bartolomé de as Casas for the Maya area, and Sahagun for the Mexican highlands, the importance of the confession of sexual transgressions for restoring health is repeatedly mentioned. He also analyzes present-day groups of the Maya area (Chiapas, Guatemala and the Yucatan Peninsula) for remmants of these ideas
