ATAHUALPA YUPANQUI'S TESTAMENT

Abstract

For Latin-Americans, the voice, songs and guitar of Atahualpa Yupanqui are the evidence of a very personal identity, in which the richness of the tradition and folklore of his land are summarized. Rodolfo Alonso, Argentinian writer, talks about this issue in this chronicle of La Capataza, a book published in 1992, the same year that he died in France. These pages —according to Alonso— form a doubtless new and contemporary anthology of his verse and prose, but despite being edited barely a month before he last set foot in this land, they have become without doubt a testament.
