EXTENSION OF THE PANAMA CHANNEL

Abstract

The canal's expansion is a need of the global economy, whether or not it moves according to the neoliberal pattern. This is a statement of the Panamanian environmental engineer Manuel Zárate P., who says afterwards in this article that the proposal of the ACP, in spite of having been conceived on a good technical basis, does not respond to the background of national interest because it ignores history and does not point toward the solution of the contradictions grew in the Panamanian nation. According to Zárate, the people seem to have finally appropriated the Canal, in terms of conscience.
