Abstract

Nearly forty million Hispanics live, work, suffer, enjoy, sing and pray in Spanish in the US. They also rebel, as was shown in the massive demonstrations on May 1, 2006. Tomas Calvo-Buezas, a Spanish anthropologist specialized in the study of migration and racism, shows us in this essay how this community has advanced, the first minority in this country to take on strong moral and political strength. And with their coming and going, with the daily reinforcement of their cultural identity, there will necessarily not be Hispanic power without Hispanic culture.
