Abstract

"On January 15 we said: Without any doubt, our government will be Bolivarian and Alfarist. Today, on May 24, the celebration of 185 years of the Battle of Pichincha, we start to adjust an account with History". With these words, Rafael Correa, Constitutional President of the Republic of Ecuador, initiated his discourse during the celebration of the battle which settled the independence of this country, that we reproduce with his permission. In his words, the President gives homage to the beautiful and indomitable Manuela Sáenz, faithful partner of Bolivar, and through her, to all women of her homeland. In an unprecedented historical event Manuela was promoted from Colonel of the Army of Greater Colombia to the rank of General of the Republic of Ecuador.
