MAY IN LA PLATA AND JULY IN LA PAZ
Main Article Content
Abstract
Mariano Baptista Gumucio, Bolivian writer, reflects upon the causes and effects of the first calls for the independence of Hispanic America. These actions began in the city of Chuquisaca on May 25, 1809, and in La Paz on July 16. The so-called Alto Perú, organized in the Audience of Charcas under the colonial structure, was involved from that point in a battle lasting sixteen years, until being liberated by Bolívar and Sucre. The last country to gain its independence, taking the name of the Venezuelan noble, became Bolivia.
