Abstract
According to the writer Ruben López Rodrigué, one of the main problems concerning the so called Tropical America —the tropical and racially mixed America— is still the lack of identity of the regions of which it is composed. "Countries with such different characteristics, with various expectations, with such distinct and contradictory interests which often explode with violence and make of this a way of life, the need to acquire a more contemporary accord with our own history —says López Rodrigué in this essay— with the objective of constructíng an appropriate identity.
