The cultural dimension of Latin America

Abstract

Sonia Valle de Frutos addresses in this paper a very topical issue for  Latin America, such as cultural diversity and identity characteristics stemming from the origins of the region. According to this Spanish researcher the appreciation of this complex reality has experienced in the last years a qualitative leap with the introduction of terms such as multiculturalism which, while still controversial mainly in Western academic circles, has had the support of such important regional organizations as CEPAL.
