Abstract

More than four hundred years have passed since the day on which Giordano Bruno made his voice heard in the Sorbonne of Paris, expostulating his theories. It was a time in which the system of knowledge and the image of the world that had dominated centuries entered a crisis from which the era of modern thought would arise. Ángel Serrano, a Mexican researcher, resuscitates in this article the figure of the first martyr to science, an example for our time, when once again scientific and humanistic knowledge is poised to fall victim to, and in the service of, market forces.
