Abstract

“We are all survivors of the 12th of January 2010. The thirty-three seconds that shook the earth, a magnitude of seven on the Richter scale produced a dramatic number of casualties: 200 thousand dead, 250 thousand wounded, millions traumatized, a million and a half homeless.” With these words the Haitian historian Suzy Castor begins her reflections, concluding that the nation must be recast in order to reoccupy a place of dignity among the concert of nations and to lend reality to the bicentennial dream of its people: full citizenship for all the Haitians.
