Abstract
Objective: to identify glucose and lipids alteration in schoolchildren and adolescents aged 6 to 15 years with overweight and obesity of a rural community in the municipality of Centro, Tabasco. Methods: cross-sectional study with non-randomized sample. The sample was constituted by 50 persons between 6 and 15 years of age, with overweight or obese. The variables measured were: age, gender, total cholesterol, high and low density lipoproteins (hdl) (ldl), triglycerides, glucose, food and hours allocated to watch TV. Results: the mean age was 10.14 ±2. 41; 52% were female; 46% (n=23) with fasting glucose values between 100 and 125 mg/dl; 70% (n=35) obtained triglycerides fasting values ≥130 mg/dl; while the highest proportion (92%, n=46) was within the acceptable values of cholesterol <170 mg/dl. Conclusions: fasting lipid and glucose evaluation in children and adolescents with overweight and obesity suggests that from early ages values are modified.
