Obesity in Women with Breast Cancer at a General Hospital in Hidalgo, Mexico

Abstract
Objective: to evaluate the presence of obesity as an associated factor to breast cancer in patients of the General Hospital No. 8 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security in Ciudad Sahagun, Hidalgo, Mexico. Methods: cross-sectional, observational and descriptive study from July 2015 to January 2017. 58 records of women with breast cancer diagnosis were selected. The body mass index (bmi) was measured at the time of diagnosis. Results: from the 58 patients with breast cancer, 37.9% were overweight, 37.9% had obesity grade I, 5.2% had obesity grade II, 3.4% were morbidly obese and 15.5% had normal weight. There was an increased trend in women between 50 to 59 years. Conclusions: the majority of patients with breast cancer were overweight or obese, as bmi rose the frequency of patients with this diagnosis increased, as well.
