Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: to synthesize epidemiological aspects of the spread of covid-19 as a basis for health planning in addressing this public health problem. Methods: this writing was based on documentary review of information on the subject in digital databases. In order to facilitate the reading and analysis of the data found during the review, the writing was divided into three sections: transmission, epidemiology, and recommendations for monitoring and addressing covid-19. Results: Due to the speed and spread of sars-CoV-2, monitoring and control measures implemented by the first countries to be affected must be applied, adapting them to the sociocultural, geographic, and economic characteristics of each country. Conclusions: covid-19 is an emerging disease with significant morbidity and mortality, which requires prompt epidemiological assessment for the implementation of health programs, therefore to control the pandemic and prevent outbreaks.
