Aesthetics of Statics: from funicular technique to bone beams

Abstract
Today, technical and constructive constraints are no longer important in developing of almost any architectural approach, but during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the design of new architectural forms was closely linked to the appearance of new materials and new structural systems. In this paper we review some of the formal innovations made by Spanish technicians over this period, arising from expressive and structural possibilities of reinforced concrete.
