Critical discourses about the art from Latin America. The art, critique and theory in the artistic practice of Luis Camnitzer
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper analyses Luis Camnitzer’s project to set up a politicized art tradition within the notion of “Latin American conceptualism”. The study of the different ways in which his visual artworks and his discursive interventions participate in this business and construct the links between the artistic and the social allows us to explore the different theoretical conceptions about art that underlie Luis Camnitzer’s production. While Camnitzer’s writings re-territorialize art by identifying the political component in the artwork as a defining condition of “Latin American art”, his artworks question this identification. The context of Camnitzer’s artworks is no longer transparent and always leads to a new creation.
