Political discourse and the assassination of Luis Donaldo Colosio
Main Article Content
Abstract
Our study aims to analyze the speech by Luis Donaldo Colosio, the former candidate for the Mexican presidency, delivered on March 6, 1994 on the occasion of the sixty-fifth anniversary of the Institutional Revolutionary Party. The speech is of capital importance because it is the last official speech of the speaker before his appointment, by location, we will try to situate the speech in its socio-economic and political context to ascertain its alleged relationship with the homicide. Likewise, we propose a thematic-semantic and sociolinguistic analysis to detect the different techniques used by Colosio in order to persuade the masses and win the presidential elections.
Our objective lies in understanding the background to the discourses that marked the contemporary history of Mexico, and deciphering the discursive tools of political communication within the sociopolitical process. In addition, it constitutes a pretext to discover a very important stage in the contemporary history of Mexico.
