Calidad de vida y género, un estudio exploratorio en la ciudad de Popayán, Colombia

Abstract

We present the results obtained in our exploratory study carried out in the city of Popayan, Colombia. Our research establishes how the concept of “quality of life” develops according to gender and the socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of the city and the region. The study of quality of life was accomplished using the Principal Components Analysis (PCA). There were chosen three concepts according to the importance that people give to different aspects related to work, personal development and material goods. The results suggest that people´s perceptions are strongly influenced by gender, family, economical and environmental contexts.
