Abstract

HLA is the most polymorphic system in human beings and its study has permitted to establish close relationships to susceptibility to autoimmune, infections and neoplasic diseases. Two interesting genes of this system are DQalfa and killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) genes. The polymorphisms of these genes have not been previously studied in our population. The individual repertory of HLA and KIR genes and its frequencies in our population is relevant because the polymorphisms implied genetic susceptibility to diabetes and infection diseases that are very frequent in the general population. The study contributes to the establishment of the genetic structure of the Mexican population and to deepen in the epidemiologic panorama related to preventive tools to offer better health conditions in our population.
