Abstract

With the aim of clarifying how the body form of young Mexican sportsmen is like. An analysis was carried out in a group of male subadults between 14.5 and 18.5 years of age, who attended the exhibition Ciencia y Deporte at the Museo de Ciencias y Artes of the National University of Mexico, during 1990 and 1991. The sample is based on seven groups of young men, one of those who do not practice any sport and six of those dedicated to some of the sports considered. In the present study we report for the ages of 15, 16, 17 and 18 years the statistical results for seven anthropometric measurements and the comparison of these groups by ANOVA analysis. When there existed statistical differences, we applied the Fisher F test.

The results obtained show that the american football and basketball players have, in general, a big body, while those who practice martial arts and soccer football are the smallest. The athletes, swimmers and those who don´t practice any sport lay in the middle of these extremes.
