Abstract

Sex assessment is one of the most important procedures in osteological investigation. Sexual dimorphism patterns in hip bones show non-population specificity. The dspmethod has a high precision in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America samples. In this work we test the dspmethod in Mexican contemporary population; from the osteological collection of the Physical Anthropology Section, Department of Anatomy, school of Medicine, National Autonomous University of Mexico (unam). Ten measures were carried out in two hundred fifty hip-bones; 118 (47.2 %) females and 132 (52.8 %) males. Our results show that the dspmethod has a highest probability of sex assessment for females with 98.3 % and 81.1 % for male, the miss classified samples are attributed for individual sex variation, but the dspmethod has 100 % of accuracy in Mexican contemporary population.
