Abstract

The present essay examines briefly from a historical perspective the techniques of production, preparation and consumption of tea in China, as well as its association with the poems of the Classic book of riddles, concerning the origin and purpose of the tea. It provides, through the senses of smell, taste, touch and sight, and finally of the meaning socially given to tea by its classification in colors, ranging from white to green and from red to black, in order to have a rapprochement of its traditional forms of consumption and its perceptions in three specific periods of Chinese history.
