Focus and Scope

La Revista Journal of Behavior, Health & Social Issues, JBHSI, es una publicación semestral dirigida a profesionales y personas interesadas en el estudio del comportamiento animal básico, así como del comportamiento humano en las áreas de salud, educación, trabajo y temas sociales. Los escritos se publican en inglés o en español y difunden avances metodológicos, teóricos, conceptuales y de investigación empírica.

La revista JBHSI aparece en mayo y en noviembre de cada año, con el número ISSN 2007–0780 para su versión impresa y el número ISSN 2007–0772, para su versión digital. La estructura organizacional para su publicación, descansa en la Asociación Mexicana de Comportamiento y Salud, A. C. La JBHSI es un foro abierto a todos los investigadores interesados en contribuir con el avance del conocimiento para la comprensión de los mecanismos que regulan el funcionamiento de los organismos animales y humanos, el estudio de los procesos que influyen en el comportamiento saludable, dentro de los complejos entramados de la interacción social.

The Journal of Behavior, Health, & Social Issues (JBHSI) is a publication that appears twice a year, aimed for specialists an people interested in basic animal behavior and human behavior in the fields of health, education, work and social issues. The papers are published in English or Spanish. The journal disseminates articles dealing with methodological, theoretical, conceptual and empirical research.

JBHSI is published on May and November, with ISSN 2007-0780 number for its printed and ISSN2007-0772 for its digital version. The organizational structure for its publication rests upon the Mexican Association of Behavioral Health. The journal is open to individuals interested in contributing for the advancement of knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms that underlie the functioning of animal and human organisms, as well as for the study of processes affecting health behavior in the complex network of social interactions.

Peer Review Process

El dictamen editorial es de tipo doble ciego, por lo cual se debe mandar en archivo separado los datos que identifiquen a los autores, esto incluye: título del artículo, nombre completo de los autores con ambos apellidos, su institución de adscripción, teléfonos, correo electrónico, descripción breve de la contribución de cada uno al escrito sometido a consideración, así como los agradecimientos.Una vez que el editor ha recibido una propuesta de publicación, éste la turna al equipo editorial para la asignación de los revisores. Un miembro del equipo editorial selecciona a tres revisores anónimos que evaluarán cada artículo. Los revisores son especialistas en el tema central del artículo propuesto y serán de una institución distinta a la institución de adscripción del autor principal o primer autor. Un artículo es aceptado si recibe dos evaluaciones positivas. El dictamen final es inapelable y lo emite el editor de la revista, a partir de las recomendaciones de los revisores.

The editorial review is made on a double-blind basis so it is necessary to send in a separate file: title of the article, the author’s full name, institutional affiliations, e-mail, phone and a brief description of their contribution to the paper. In this file include acknowledgments if applicable.Once the editor has received a paper proposal, he assigns the article to the editorial team in order to send it to review. A member of the editorial team chooses three anonymous reviewers to evaluate each article; reviewers are specialists on the central theme of the article, selected from institutions different from the affiliation of the first author. An article is accepted if it receives two favorable reviews. The final decision for publication is given by the editor, based on the peer’s recommendations.

The journal appears twice a year, in May and in November.

Aspectos Éticos / Ethical aspects

La revista establece de manera explícita que difunde investigaciones realizadas a partir de principios éticos de las disciplinas del comportamiento y que no tolera prácticas inapropiadas en el quehacer científico, ni en la difusión del conocimiento. Los autores al proponer artículos para su publicación en la revista, aceptan apegarse a estos lineamientos y asumen la responsabilidad correspondiente.

CÓDIGO DE ÉTICA JBHSI

Responsabilidades del Editor General

a)    El editor es responsable de decidir qué artículos pueden ser aceptados a la Revista y el Comité Editorial tomará la decisión final acerca de los artículos que se publicarán.

b)    El editor se responsabiliza por todo lo publicado en la revista. Se ocupará de satisfacer las necesidades de los lectores y autores; promover mejoras en la revista; asegurar la calidad del material que publica; impulsar los estándares académicos y científicos. Por otra parte, el editor deberá estar dispuesto a publicar correcciones, aclaraciones, retractaciones y disculpas cuando sea necesario.

c)    La decisión del editor de aceptar o rechazar un trabajo para su publicación debe estar basada únicamente en la importancia del artículo, la originalidad, la claridad y la pertinencia que el trabajo represente para la revista.

d)    El editor se compromete a garantizar la confidencialidad del proceso de evaluación, no revelará a los revisores la identidad de los autores ni viceversa.

e)    El editor asume la responsabilidad de informar debidamente al autor la fase del proceso editorial en que se encuentra el texto enviado, así como de las resoluciones del dictamen.

f)     El editor debe evaluar los manuscritos y su contenido intelectual sin distinción de raza, género, orientación sexual, creencias religiosas, origen étnico, nacionalidad, o la filosofía política de los autores.

g)    El editor y cualquier equipo editorial no divulgarán ninguna información sobre un manuscrito enviado a cualquier persona que no sea el autor correspondiente, revisores, revisores potenciales u otros asesores editoriales.

h)  Todos los materiales inéditos dados a conocer en un manuscrito enviado no se utilizarán en investigaciones personales de un editor, sin el consentimiento expreso y por escrito del autor. Información privilegiada o las ideas obtenidas a través de la revisión por pares serán confidenciales y no se utilizarán para obtener ventajas personales. Los editores deben tomar decisiones justas e imparciales y garantizar un proceso de revisión por pares justa y apropiada.

Responsabilidades del Comité Editorial

a)   La descripción de los procesos de revisión por pares es definido y dado a conocer por el Comité Editorial con el fin de que los autores conozcan cuáles son los criterios de evaluación. El Comité Editorial estará siempre dispuesto a resolver cualquier controversia en el proceso de evaluación.

b)    Una vez que se tenga el dictamen de un artículo, un miembro del Comité Editorial dará seguimiento oportuno. En el caso de la publicación del artículo, se solicitará la documentación necesaria al autor designado como contacto principal.

c)    El Comité Editorial se compromete a mantener comunicación constante y productiva con los autores y dar solución oportuna a dudas que pudieran surgir en el proceso.

 

Responsabilidades de los autores

a)    Los autores deben garantizar que sus manuscritos son producto de su trabajo original y que los datos han sido obtenidos de manera ética. Además, deben garantizar que sus trabajos no han sido previamente publicados o que no estén siendo considerados en otra publicación. Se considerará a un trabajo como previamente publicado cuando ocurra cualquiera de las siguientes situaciones:

1. Cuando el texto completo haya sido publicado.
2. Cuando fragmentos extensos de materiales previamente publicados formen parte del texto enviado a la Revista.
3. Cuando el trabajo sometido a la Revista este contenido en memorias publicadas in extenso.
4. Estos criterios se refieren a publicaciones previas en forma impresa o electrónica, y en cualquier idioma.

b)    Para la publicación de sus trabajos, los autores deben seguir estrictamente las normas para la publicación de artículos definidas por el Comité Editorial.

c)    Los autores enviarán a la Revista un original del artículo sin información personal (nombre, datos de contacto, adscripción, etc.) y excluyendo su nombre de las referencias bibliográficas en que aparece.

d)    Los autores deben presentar una descripción precisa del trabajo realizado, así como una discusión objetiva de su importancia. Los datos subyacentes deben estar representados con precisión en el artículo. Un documento debe contener suficiente detalle y referencias para permitir a otros a utilizar el trabajo. Declaraciones fraudulentas o deliberadamente inexactas constituyen un comportamiento poco ético y son inaceptables.

e)    Todas las ideas plasmadas en el manuscrito deben estar bien sustentadas, referenciadas  e incluidas en la lista de referencias.

f)     Los autores deben asegurarse de que han escrito en su totalidad las obras originales, y si los autores han utilizado el trabajo y / o palabras de otros tiene que ser debidamente citado. El plagio en todas sus formas constituye una conducta no ética editorial y es inaceptable. En consecuencia, cualquier manuscrito que incurra en plagio será eliminado y no considerado para su publicación.

g)    Se deben de reconocer las fuentes adecuadamente. Los autores deben citar las publicaciones que han sido influyentes en la naturaleza del trabajo presentado. Se deberá evitar el abuso de las auto-citas. La información obtenida de forma privada, como en conversaciones, correspondencias o discusiones con terceros, no debe ser usado sin explícito permiso escrito de la fuente.

h)   La autoría debe limitarse a aquellos que han hecho una contribución significativa a la concepción, diseño, ejecución o interpretación del estudio. Todos aquellos que han hecho contribuciones significativas deben aparecer como co-autores. El o los  autores principales deben indicar cuál ha sido la contribución de cada autor y co-autor en el manuscrito, además de asegurar que todos los co-autores se incluyen en el artículo, y que todos han visto y aprobado la versión final del documento y han acordado su presentación para su publicación.

i)     Todos los autores deben revelar en su manuscrito cualquier conflicto de fondo financiero u otro de interés que pudiera influir en los resultados o interpretación de su manuscrito. Deben revelarse todas las fuentes de apoyo financiero para el proyecto.

j)      Cuando un autor descubre un error o inexactitud significativa en su  obra publicada, es su obligación notificar de inmediato al Editor General.

Responsabilidades de los revisores

a)    Los revisores se comprometen a notificar sobre cualquier conducta no ética por parte de los autores y señalar toda la información que pueda ser motivo para rechazar la publicación de los artículos. Además, deben comprometerse a mantener de manera confidencial la información relacionada con los artículos que evalúan.

b)    Para la revisión de los trabajos, los revisores deben contar con las directrices para realizar esta tarea. Dichas directrices deben ser proporcionadas por el editor y son las que deben de considerar para la evaluación.

c)    Todo revisor seleccionado  debe  de notificar en el menor tiempo posible al editor si está calificado para revisar la investigación de un manuscrito o  si no está en la posibilidad de hacer la revisión.

d)    Cualquier manuscrito recibido para su revisión debe ser tratado como documento confidencial.

e)    Los revisores se deben conducir de manera objetiva. Toda crítica personal al autor es inapropiada. Los revisores deben expresar sus puntos de vista con claridad y con argumentos válidos.

f)     Toda información privilegiada o las ideas obtenidas a través de la revisión por pares debe ser confidencial y no se utilizará para obtener ventajas personales.

g)    Los revisores no deben evaluar los manuscritos en los que tienen conflictos de intereses.

En caso de prácticas inadecuadas en los artículos sometidos a publicación

Si los autores incurren en prácticas inadecuadas, esto es someter artículos que no fuesen de su autoría, que presenten datos no genuinos, alterados, o de alguna forma su inclusión refleje dolo, negligencia u omisión del seguimiento de aspectos básicos del código de ética del psicólogo durante o después de su obtención, quedarán vetados de manera vitalicia a publicar en la revista, y se enviará una carta de extrañamiento al director de la institución a la que pertenecen denunciando el hecho, con copia de tal notificación a las principales revistas de la disciplina en el país.

 

Ethical Aspects

The journal establishes explicitly that it disseminates research based on ethical principles of the behavioral sciences and that it does not tolerate scientific malpractices in production nor in dissemination of knowledge. The authors sending proposals of articles to be published in the journal, accept to endorse these requirements and assume their corresponding responsibilities.

Responsibilities General Editor

a) The editor is responsible of deciding which paper can be accepted for the Journal and the Editorial Committee will take the final decision about the paper to be published.

b) The editor is responsible for everything published in the journal. The editor will cater to the needs of readers and authors; promote improvements in the Journal; ensure the quality of the material published; promote academic and scientific standards. Moreover, the editor must be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when necessary.

c) The editor's decision to accept or reject a paper for publication should be based only on the importance of the article, originality, clarity and relevance it represents for the Journal.

d) The editor commits to ensure the confidentiality of the evaluation process, the identity of the authors would not be reveal to the reviewers or vice versa.

e) The editor is responsible for properly informing the author of the editorial process phase in which the text is, as well as the resolutions of the reviews.

f) The editor should evaluate manuscripts and their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, nationality, or political philosophy of the authors.

g) The editor and any editorial staff shall not divulge any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers or other editorial advisers.

h) All untold materials disclosed in a manuscript submitted will not be used for personal research of an editor, without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtainedthrough peer review shall be confidential and not used for personal gain. Editors must make fair and impartial decisions and ensure a review process fair and appropriate pairs.

 

Editorial Committee Responsibilities

a) The description of the peer review process is defined and released by the Editorial Committee to the authors to be aware of the evaluation criteria. The Editorial Committee is always ready to resolve any controversy in the assessment process.

b) Once the review of a paper is ready, a member of the Editorial Committee will give appropriate follow-up. In the case of article publication, the committee will require the necessary documentation to the author designated as the main contact.

c) The Editorial Committee is committed to maintaining steady and productive communication with authors and gives timely solution to questions that may arise in the process.

Authors Responsibilities

a) Authors should ensure that their manuscripts are the product of his original work and that the data have been obtained in an ethical manner. They must ensure that their work has not been previously published or are not being considered in another publication. It is considered as a previously published work when any of the following situations:

1. When the full text is published.

2. When extensive fragments of previously published materials are part of the text sent to a Journal.

3. When the work submitted to the Journal this content in memoirs published verbatim.

4. These criteria relate to previous publications in printed or electronic form and in any language.

b) For the publication of their works, authors should strictly follow the publication rules defined by the Editorial Committee.

c) The authors will send to the Journal one version of the original paper without personal information (name, contact details, affiliation, etc.) and excluding his name from the citations in which appears.

d) Authors must submit a precise description of the work done, as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the article. A document must contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to use the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

e) All ideas in the manuscript should be well supported, referenced and included in the list of references.

f) The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and / or words of others has to be properly cited. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. Consequently, any manuscript that incurs plagiarism will be removed and not considered for publication.

g) Sources must be recognized properly. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in the nature of the work presented. Should avoid the abuse of self-citations. Information obtained privately, as in conversation, correspondence or discussions with third parties should not be used without express written permission from the source.

h) Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution or interpretation of the study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. The principal authors should indicate what has been the contribution of each author and co-authors on the manuscript, ensuring that all co-authors are included in the article, and has seen and approved the final version of the document and agreed to its submission for publication.

i) All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial conflict of interest or other background that could influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. Reveal all sources of financial support for the project.

j) When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his published work, it is their duty to notify immediately the General Editor.

 

Reviewers responsibilities

a) The reviewers undertake to notify any unethical behavior on the part of the authors and point out all the information that may be grounds to refuse publication of paper. They must also commit to keeping confidential information related to the articles evaluated.

b) To review the work, reviewers should have guidelines for this task. Such guidance should be provided by the editor and are those that should be considered for evaluation.

c) All reviewer selected must notify in the shortest possible time to the editor, if the are qualified to review the investigation of a manuscript or if it is not possible to do the review.

d) Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document.

e) The reviewers should be conducted objectively. All personal criticism to the authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and with valid arguments.

f) Any inside information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal gain.

g) The reviewers should not evaluate manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.

 

Publication malpractice statement

If the authors engage in inappropriate practices, this is: to submit articles that are not of his own, presenting not genuine, altered, or otherwise data reflect inclusion fraud, negligence or omission of following basic aspects of psychologists ethics code during or after production, will be life banned to publish in the journal, and a letter of estrangement to the director of the institution to which they belong denouncing the fact, with a copy of such notice to leading journals of the discipline in Mexico will be sent.
