Abstract

This article analyzes the last rituals realized by the occupants of the classic Mayan city of Machaquila, located in the Guatemalan Peten. Some of these rituals seem to be clearly related to activities of abandon of certain structures, or to some important parts of the city, and others are related to the cessation of elitist activities and the end of the dynasty of this old kingdom, which may have been founded in the transition from the Late Pre-Classic to the Early Classic, but that reached its major importance in the Late Classic.
