In this story, that takes as a historical background the armed conflict designated the Caste War, the narrator focuses on the vision of the defeated: the Mayan rebels and their “Talking Cross,” making this text a representation of the point of those who rebelled against the customary oppression of the white yucatecos. This short novel on the peninsular Mexican past updates and questions relevant topics in the present, since the problems raised have not been completely solved; thus, we conclude, the struggle of the Mayan race yearns to be novelized so that their historical deeds be forever preserved in memory.
