Abstract
The author proposes a concise analysis of the meaning of Autonomy in the academical scope. He establishes a relationship between Autonomy and Fredom, a union that creates the university, known as a educational institution where teachers, students and academic authorities can give their own criteria of jurisdiction and organization of their acts. The origin of autonomy in the UNAM was not easy nevertheless it readed substantial goals that fortified the education in Mexico. For that reason, the study of the UNAM is key in the explanation and study of the concept that offers a wide variety of studies and proposals.
