Abstract

This paper analyzes the internal democratization efforts conducted by the PRI in the processof selecting internal candidates running for mayors in the period between 1965 and 1984, theauthor uses a methodology based on texts of Hazan and Rahat. It aims to demonstrate thereasons why these attempts of internal democratization failed and the convenience of usingthese democratic methods of selection in hegemonic political parties.
