Intervención esterilizada en el mercado de cambios en un régimen de metas de inflación: la experiencia de México

Abstract
La crisis cambiaria y financiera que sufrió México al finalizar 1994, y que se atribuyó en gran medida al mantenimiento de una ancla cambiaria que sobrevaluó la moneda, llevó al Banco Central a modificar la conducción de la política monetaria, adoptando formalmente, a partir de 2001, el esquema de metas de inflación. Desde entonces, la autoridad monetaria ha afirmado reiteradamente que el régimen cambiario vigente es de libre flotación, y que la política monetaria ha sustituido al tipo de cambio como ancla nominal de la economía.
