BENCHMARKING DE LA BANCA CENTRAL EN AMÉRICA LATINA, 1990-2010

Abstract
Se desarrolla un análisis de benchmarking de la eficacia de la banca central en América Latina en 1990-2010. Con tal objetivo se consideran las funciones principales y secundarias de la autoridad monetaria en los países considerados, luego de analizar brevemente la evolución de las prácticas de los banqueros centrales internacionales. Se seleccionan, especifican y ponderan los indicadores pertinentes para evaluar el desempeño de estas instituciones: menor inflación, mayor disponibilidad de crédito al sector privado, menores márgenes de intermediación financiera, menor variabilidad del tipo de cambio real y diversos objetivos para las reservas internacionales. Se establecen funciones objetivo, que se miden con la información oficial disponible. Por último, se establece un ordenamiento de los bancos centrales considerando los indicadores y funciones objetivo seleccionadas.
