Abstract
¿Por qué la economía de Japón creció mucho más rápido que la de Gran Bretaña en las cuatro primeras décadas de la posguerra? ¿Por qué la economía de China ha crecido en los últimos treinta años entre 4 y 5 veces más rápido que la de México? ¿Se deben estas diferencias en tasas de crecimiento a diferencias en el patrón de especialización comercial y las diferencias resultantes en elasticidades ingreso de exportaciones e importaciones? ¿O tienen más bien que ver con el hecho de que la tasa de inversión de Japón fue mucho más alta que la de Gran Bretaña y la de China, más de dos veces mayor que la de México? Este es el tipo de preguntas que nos motivó a escribir el artículo, pues nos parece que la literatura que apoya la Ley de Thirlwall da respuestas insatisfactorias a ellas...
