Abstract
Por lo menos desde hace veinte años viene creciendo de manera alarmante la exigencia por parte de instituciones y revistas académicas de alta reputación (reconocidas en listas blancas) para garantizar prácticas éticas en la publicación científica. Esto se acompaña de la exigencia de gobiernos, universidades e instituciones de todo el mundo por aumentar la producción del conocimiento en todas las áreas del saber. Lo anterior parece responder al hecho de que los académicos deben justificar ante la sociedad —en forma de productos finales de investigación— su trabajo cotidiano y, más aún, los ingresos y financiamientos que reciben de los contribuyentes. Es decir, la sociedad, representada por esos organismos, les exige a los académicos que demuestren de manera concreta la utilidad científica y social de su trabajo.
