Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine the factor structure of the 10-item Homophobia Scale (EAH-10), its internal consistency, to describe its distribution, and to estimate its validity with the 10-item Homosexuality Attitude Scale (EAH-10) (Moral & Martinez, 2010). A random sample of 561 college student was collected. After studying items psychometric properties we advise to eliminate four by low internal consistency for defining an only attitudinal factor of rejection-acceptance (alpha = .658) with a data fit from good (RMSSR = .03, GFI = .98, AGFI = .96 and NFI = .93) to adequate (chi-square/gl = 2.93, RMSEA = .06 and NNFI = .92) by Maximum Likelihood. This 1-factor structure explained 38% of the total variance by Principal Component Analysis. The distribution of the scale EHF-6 was positive skew. It is concluded that the attitude concept is clearer than that of homophobia and is recommended the use of the scale EAH-10 instead of the scale EHF-6.
