Abstract

Two pairs of rats, male and a female, were exposed to one of two schedules of alimentary deprivation. One pair was completely deprived of the access to food, while other was expose to partial deprivation of 12 hours. The period of deprivation lasted for three days. Corporal wight, food, and water intake were recorded under cycles of free access, alimentary deprivation, and free access. Deprivation schedules produced sustantial increase in the corporal wight, once the alimentary restriction was suspended. A bahavioral mechanism of alimentary regulation is proposed to interpret these results.
