Abstract

Wise (1978) has advanced dic hypothesis that dic perfonnance decrets aten in instru¬mentally-trained animals ¿ter neuroleptic txeatment are due to blockade of dic rewarding properdes of reinforcers, rather than te motor debilitation. In tbis paper a review ja made of relevant experirnents that support or contradict Wise’s hypothesis and a re-interpreta¬don of sorne resulta ja offered. Taken Together, diese resulta indicate that such neurolep¬tic-induced perfonnance decrets are, indeed, due to a reduction iii dic rewardisig impact of reinforcers.
